As there is a paucity of data on the link between coronary flow reserve (CFR), myocardial injury, diastolic dysfunction, and future heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) risk, the investigators performed a study to address the same. The findings published in the European Heart Journal revealed that impaired CFR appears to be independently related to diastolic dysfunction and adverse effects, particularly HFpEF hospitalization in symptomatic patients without overt coronary artery disease. Moreover, presence of coronary microvascular and diastolic dysfunctions is associated with a significantly increased risk of HFpEF events.
